Urbanization may be described simply as the process of people moving from rural areas to the urban areas. This is a global trend that is as a result of the urge to have better and improved economic status. Policies are of the same notion as hundreds of millions of people, including those from Shanghai, have migrated from rural areas to urban cities in the hope of better paying jobs and overall standards of living. For instance, New York City has experienced massive expansion in its infrastructure. Rural abandonment is the opposite of urbanization in which people begin to leave the rural areas and flock to the cities.  Such a shift results in decreased yields of agricultural productions, problems with sustaining local services and community life.
